Depression & Bipolar Disorder
Depression and Major Depressive Disorder
Do you struggle with recurring thoughts of hopelessness, sadness, and grief? While it is normal to feel sad about life situations or to grieve a loss, such as a death, losing your job or a divorce, sometimes individuals develop clinical depression or major depressive disorder, in which their symptoms result in a loss of functioning and extreme unhappiness. Individuals with depression often report apathy, lack of motivation, can sleep too long or too little, have low energy, and can have thoughts of not wanting to be alive anymore. This is no way to live and you deserve to feel better. Sometimes psychotherapy is an effective treatment, but othertimes, individuals take psychotropic medications to get them back to feeling like themselves again. There is no shame in taking medications and sometimes we need help awhen doing it on our own hasn't been working. What about treatment resistant depression? Perhaps you have tried an antidepressant medication already. I will work with you to find an effective treatment. I offer genetic testing to help determine how ones genes may affect medication outcomes and help choose which medications will be effective and better tolerated. This simple test is easy to perform and 98% of patients pay $330 or less.Depression & Bipolar Disorder
Bipolar Disorder
What many people may not realize is that individuals with bipolar disorder often suffer more from their depressive episodes then from their hypomanic or manic episodes. Often individuals will present with symptoms of depression and upon further screening, we will realize they have a diagnosis of bipolar disorder based on their previous history of symptoms of hypomania or mania. This is an important distinction and diagnosis as the medication treatment for bipolar disorder is vastly different from that of Major Depressive Disorder and seeing an experienced psychiatrist who understands and screens for Bipolar Disorder can lead to effective and safe treatment. And vice versa, sometimes indivduals may think they have bipolar disorder, when really they are suffering from anxiety or PTSD as the symptoms can overlap and appear similar.
